Welcome – I’m So Glad You’re Here
Neurodivergent Counseling
Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming, especially if you’ve spent years feeling misunderstood or unseen. If you’ve landed here, chances are you’re tired of carrying the weight of old wounds, people-pleasing, perfectionism, or burnout from constantly masking. Maybe you’re wondering if therapy could finally be the place where you don’t have to hold it all together.
I want you to know: you’re in the right place.
My name is Megan Smith, and I specialize in working with neurodivergent adults and young millennials/Gen Z clients who have experienced complex trauma (CPTSD), ADHD, and late-diagnosed Autism. My passion is helping people untangle the ways their past still shows up in their present so they can finally feel free to live authentically, without shame.
Why I Do This Work
For a long time, I looked like I had it together on the outside while quietly hiding my struggles. I grew up believing I had to hold it all together, do everything “right,” and put other people’s needs before my own.
Like so many of my clients, I spent years feeling like I was the problem. I masked. I overfunctioned. And for years, I thought my only option was to just push through. And no matter how hard I tried, I never felt like I was enough.
Later in life, I began to understand my own neurodivergence and trauma history. That discovery changed everything. Suddenly, the traits that once felt like flaws started to make sense. Therapy gave me a space where I could unmask, reconnect with myself, and begin to build a life that felt aligned with who I really was.
That’s why I do this work—because I know how lonely it feels to live behind a mask. And I also know how powerful it is when someone finally tells you, “You’re not broken. Your brain just works differently, and that’s okay.”
I want therapy with me to feel like a place where you can put down the weight you’ve been carrying and start to imagine a different way of living.
I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Healing is personal. It’s messy. And it’s also deeply powerful.
What It’s Like to Work With Me
In our work together, I focus on creating a relationship where you feel seen, understood, and safe to be yourself. Therapy with me is person-centered, which means we move at your pace and prioritize your goals. I don’t come in with an agenda—I meet you where you are, and we build the path together.
I also use EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a powerful evidence-based approach for healing trauma. With EMDR, we don’t just talk about your experiences—we actually process them in a way that helps your brain and body release what’s been stuck. Clients often describe it as finally being able to move forward without the same triggers, shame, or heaviness they’ve carried for years.
Alongside EMDR, much of our work will be relational. That means we’ll explore how your past experiences show up in the present—especially in the way you connect with others. Together, we’ll practice boundaries, communication, and authentic self-expression in a safe, supportive space.
And while I take your healing seriously, I also believe therapy can be a place of humor, curiosity, and lightness. Some sessions may feel deep and emotional, others may feel like a breath of fresh air. Both are equally important to your growth.
Who I Work With
I see clients who:
Struggle with CPTSD and want to break cycles of trauma and self-blame
Live with ADHD or Autism and are tired of masking, burnout, and perfectionism
Feel stuck in people-pleasing, guilt, and shame that makes it hard to live authentically
Long for deeper intimacy and real connection in relationships but don’t know how to get there
If you’re a young adult, millennial, or Gen Z-er who feels exhausted from constantly being “too much” or “not enough,” my therapy space is for you.
A Bit More About Me (The Person Behind the Therapist)
When I’m not in sessions, you can usually find me curled up with a good book, with a coffee or kombucha in hand, rewatching The Office or New Girl for the millionth time, or planning my next cozy night in. I believe that healing doesn’t always have to feel heavy—sometimes play and joy are part of the medicine.
I’m also a big fan of small rituals that make the day brighter: lighting a candle, taking care of Buddy, or listening to music as a way to ground myself. These are the same kinds of everyday practices I encourage my clients to discover—simple ways of making life feel softer and more manageable. Therapy is serious work, yes, but it can also feel playful, dynamic, and full of moments of relief.

FAQs
What is neurodivergent counseling?
Neurodivergent counseling is therapy that honors the unique ways ADHD, Autism, and other neurodivergences shape how you experience the world. Instead of trying to “fix” or make you fit into a mold, we’ll work together to help you embrace your brain, reduce shame, and find strategies that actually fit your life.
Do I need a formal diagnosis to work with you?
Not at all. Many of my clients are self-identified or late-diagnosed. What matters is that you resonate with the challenges we’ll explore—masking, burnout, overstimulation, trauma, or feeling misunderstood in relationships.
What can I expect in therapy sessions?
Every session looks a little different, depending on your needs. Sometimes we’ll process painful experiences, sometimes we’ll explore practical coping strategies, and sometimes we’ll reflect on patterns in your relationships. My role is to guide, support, and sometimes gently challenge you in ways that help you grow.
Do you offer EMDR for trauma?
Yes. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the main modalities I use for clients with CPTSD, trauma, or overwhelming memories. It helps your brain process what felt “stuck” so you can move forward without being hijacked by the past.
How often are our virtual meetings?
Most clients meet weekly or biweekly at the beginning. Over time, as you feel stronger and more grounded, we may reduce frequency. We’ll decide together based on what feels supportive.
Do you take insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider, but I can provide superbills for clients who want to seek reimbursement from their insurance. Many clients also use HSA/FSA funds.
